Sumba is one of 17,500 islands scattered in the Indonesia Archipelago and it is a part of the Province of East Nusa Tenggara with abundant natural and cultural resources. We work closely with local artisans to create authentic products and help build their economic prosperity which has been worsened by the pandemic. Aside from building a better future, we also aim to help indigenous communities to preserve their cultures in a fast changing modern world.
Ikat woven, a signature product of the region, is a woven ethnic handmade fabric that makes motifs using the ikat techniques. Each finished product is uniquely crafted by several local textile artisans using natural dyes and natural fiber. It would take about 3-6 months to finish. Each Sumba woven ikat has a different meaning behind each pattern. For example : Horse represents heroism, grandeur, and nobility while Crocodile or dragon represents power of the king- etc.
